A Pune-based woman, held in the run up to the Republic Day functions in Kashmir valley amid intelligence agencies’ inputs regarding presence of a female suicide bomber, has been released by the police, as it failed to establish any links with militancy.Police sources said the police investigation failed to establish anything against her and decided to set her free on Saturday. She was allowed to board a plane along with her mother, who along with her brother arrived in Srinagar last week. The woman remained in Srinagar’s Rambagh police station and went through “repeated questioning”.A police spokesman told The Hindu that Sadiya Anwar Shaikh, a resident of Maharastra’s Pune, had arrived in Srinagar on January 16 on a Vistara flight.A police official said she boarded a train from Bijbehara to Awantipora on January 25, immediately after the security agencies flashed inputs about a Pune-based girl “planning to detonate explosives inside or outside a Republic Day venue in J&K”.Police sources said the woman approached the Awantipora police station “on her own as she saw her name in the reports published by the local newspapers”.During her stay in the Valley, she tried to get in touch with a boy from Lal Bazaar in Srinagar. “The two had become friends on the Facebook and had developed a relationship. However, we could not establish if they got married or not,” a police officer said.Ms. Shaikh, with a religious bent of mind, also approached a nursing college in Anantnag’s Bijbehara for admission in a nursing course. She has already done a course in pharmacy in Pune.Earlier, the Pune police had also denied any pending case against the woman.
× The Indian women’s hockey team recorded its third successive win in the Asia Cup, beating Malaysia 2–0 in the final pool game here today.India go into the quarterfinals as table toppers with nine points. The late goals by Vandana Katariya (54th minute) and Gurjit Kaur (55) saw the team through against Malaysia. In the previous match, India scored a 4–1 win over higher-ranked China. The first quarter saw both teams play cautiously. With Malaysia playing defensive hockey, India waited patiently without making any unforced errors.Having ended the first quarter in a stalemate, Malaysia put India on the back foot when they won the first penalty corner (PC) of the match in the initial minutes of the second quarter. However, an alert Rajani Etimarpu made a brilliant save. The next few minutes saw both teams trade PCs. While India earned one PC, Malaysia were awarded two but nothing came off it.Both teams played out evenly in the third quarter too.Another PC won by Malaysia was not capitalised by them, ending the third quarter too in a stalemate.India held their nerve to turn the match around in the fourth quarter. First it was forward Katariya who scored a sensational field goal in the 54th minute. The following minute saw drag-flicker Gurjit Kaur convert a PC, taking India’s lead to 2–0 that put pressure on the Malaysians.Malaysia made desperate attempts in the dying minutes of the match but the Indian defence held sway to emerge victorious. sport Published on hockey October 31, 2017 COMMENTS COMMENT SHARE SHARE EMAIL SHARE
Gary Neville says he is “torn” on Anthony Martial amid reports the winger has turned down a new contract at the club.Martial remains a talking point as his contract winds down, with many debating the winger’s value to the team.At just 22 years old, Martial’s potential continues to shine through on some occasions, although his inability to provide consistently strong performance remains an issue. Zlatan wasn’t even the best player in LA! Martial’s contract is set to expire this summer, although Manchester United has a one-year option that the club can renew. The winger has appeared 146 times for the club since moving from Monaco in 2015, but Neville isn’t surprised to see him turn down a new deal as his contract winds down.”I think it’s probably the general answer of everybody that gets offered a new contract nowadays, that they turn a new one down,” Neville wrote in his column on Sky Sports.”He probably wants the same level of money some of the other players in the squad are on, he is probably looking at his options externally.”From that point of view, at this moment in time, it doesn’t surprise me at all that he’s turned it down.”Neville further admitted that he remains undecided on how he hopes to see the club approach what could be the young Frenchman’s final days in Manchester.”He’s got unbelievable talent, the ability to become one of the best in the world, he just needs confidence, belief and to play in a team that’s successful and all of a sudden we’ll see the real Martial,” “On the other hand I’d look at it thinking his body language isn’t great, his movement off the ball isn’t great, he does not make enough moves between the right back and centre back.“He doesn’t drive at people often enough in the final third and commit them, doesn’t actually have great quality when the ball is at his feet and he works his way in from the left.”I am so torn, I think that’s where fans are as well, he is a bit of a conundrum in the sense you don’t want to lose him and think of what he might become.”On the other hand he may need to leave to become what he might become. Diego Forlan had to play in Spain to become one of the best strikers in La Liga, there are players who have to leave sometimes to achieve what they want.”Then there are sometimes players who achieve what they want, Cristiano Ronaldo it just hit him after three seasons and he became incredible.”So I am really torn, it feels like I am sitting on the fence, but it is the reality I am at, I cannot make my mind up on him and I am not sure if that’s good or bad three years in.”
Former India captain Sunil Gavaskar has said the India cricket team will not be affected and distracted by ongoing controversy surrounding Hardik Pandya and KL Rahul’s infamous comments during a popular television show, Koffee With Karan.Speaking to India Today, Gavaskar pointed out that both Pandya and Rahul haven’t been vital cogs of Virat Kohli’s Team India, who are currently in Australia for the last leg of their Australian tour – a three-match ODI series, starting January 12 in Sydney.Gavaskar’s comments come after Hardik Pandya and KL Rahul are in danger of facing punishments, including a possible two-match ban, for their remarks on the television show which was aired earlier this week.”I don’t think the dressing room would be affected, this team is beyond it. The two guys you are talking were not part of Test squad, one [Pandya] just joined for the last two Test matches but did not play. Rahul had very little role to play as a batsman so I don’t think it will matter. If it would have been somebody involved in a big way, then it might have affected the dressing room,” Gavaskar said.Gavaskar also insisted it’s up to the officials to deal with the issue and pointed out that the controversy surrounding Rahul and Hardik is vastly different from the ball-tampering issue that led to bans slapped on former Australia captain and vice-captain, Steve Smith and David Warner.”If you ask me about language or anything on the field, I can speak. Off-the-field, it is for the authorities to deal with the individual’s behaviour,” Gavaskar added.advertisement”Don’t forget what Warner, Smith, and Bancroft were punished for happened on the field. What you are talking about happened in a show off the field. Officials will have to apply their mind to see what to do with it.”Rahul, Pandya susceptible to honey trap approaches: BCCI officialThe Board of Control for Cricket in India had issued a show-cause notice to both Rahul and Pandya. Despite the latter issuing a public apology for his remarks, the Supreme Court-appointed Committee of Administrators is not satisfied with it.In fact, CoA chief Vinod Rai recommended a two-match ban while revealing that Diana Edulji, a member of the committee, has sought legal opinion and the opinion of the BCCI top brass.Meanwhile, BCCI treasurer Anirudh Chaudhary has expressed fresh concerns, saying that both Rahul and Pandya could be susceptible to approaches from bookies, who carry out match-fixing via honey traps.Pandya and Rahul had become the first two cricketers to appear on the popular show, which is known for opening up celebrities on their personal lives, hosted by popular Bollywood filmmaker Karan Johar. While both the cricketers boasted about hooking up with multiple women, Pandya’s comments were borderline sexist and racist. From revealing that his parents ask him “acha tera wala (women) kaun sa hai (who is your interest here?) to conceding he likes observing the way women move, Hardik has received severe backlash for his comments.”When I lost my virginity, I came home and said, ‘Main karke aaya hai aaj (I had sex today)’. At a party my parents asked me ‘acha tera wala (women) kaun sa hai [who is your interest here?] so I said yeh, yeh, yeh (pointing out women)’ and they were like ‘waah proud of you beta’,” Pandya had boasted.Rahul then went on to reveal how they both decide on who gets to date a girl when Karan Johar asked them what happens when both of them like a particular person? “Up to the woman,” Rahul replied. But Pandya interrupted and said, “Nahi nahi aisa kuch nahi hai, talent pe hota hai. Jisko mila woh leke jao. It is on talent.”Also Read | BCCI raises honey trap concerns after Hardik, Rahul boast of night outs on TV showAlso Read | Hardik Pandya apologises for misogynistic comments on Koffee with Karan: Got carried awayAlso Read | BCCI considers barring players from non-cricket shows after Hardik Pandya controversyAlso See:

Despite his falling out with supporters, reports in Brazil claim the team have asked Watford if they can hold onto the teenager until a later date, but the Hornets are not interested in allowing him to stay in South America after his originally-agreed arrival date of January 2020. The 18-year-old has scored ten goals for Fluminense so far this season, but drew criticism for appearing at Rock In Rio festival last month.

The one loss on the season was against Temple. For Michigan, the season started off in disappointing fashion, losing to Notre Dame on the road. Since that rivalry game, the Wolverines have won their last four games in convincing fashion. With the crowd rocking and the Wolverines giving Karan Higdon a plethora of touches, it’s hard to envision the Terrapins pulling off the upset.Overall, Michigan provides balance on both sides of the ball, which should lead the Wolverines to victory. India Today Web Desk KolkataMarch 28, 2019UPDATED: March 28, 2019 00:38 IST IPL 2019, KKR vs KXIP: Andre Russell bagged the Man of the Match award after coming up with an all-round effort on Wednesday (@IPL Photo)HIGHLIGHTSAndre Russell was handed an extra life when he was batting on 3 on WednesdayRussell made good use of the opportunity by playing a match-winning cameoKings XI captain R Ashwin said he would take the blame for the costly error on the fieldKolkata Knight Riders star-all rounder Andre Russell said he is thankful to Kings XI Punjab debutant (CV Varun or Hardus Viljoen) for making a costly error that handed the big-hitter an extra life at the Eden Gardens on Wednesday. REPORT | HIGHLIGHTSRussell was cleaned up by a Mohammed Shami yorker when he was batting on 3 in the 17th over of Kolkata Knight Riders’ first innings. However, the umpire called a no-ball after noticing that Kings XI had only three fielders outside the 30-yard circle (there needs to be at least four).Kings XI captain R Ashwin was fuming after Russell was gifted a reprieve while the Eden Gardens crowd were roaring in delight. Rusell made perfect use of the opportunity as he smashed five sixes and three boundaries after the missed opportunity. The West Indies big-hitter finished with 47 from 17 balls and helped KKR to a massive total of 218 for 4.Russell’s cameo proved to be the difference between the two teams at the end as Kings XI Punjab managed only 190 runs, thereby losing the encounter by 28 runs.”Thanks to that guy who was outside the ring. It’s the new guy, forgot his name. Thank you. When I got bowled, I thought I’d missed out but I saw the guys in the dugout signalling no-ball and I was like, please God, let it be a no-ball,” Russell said.Russell has been in fine form in IPL 2019. The KKR all-rounder had smashed 49 runs from just 19 balls in KKR’s win over Sunrisers Hyderabad on Sunday. Russell has now two Man of the Match awards in as many matches.advertisementTalking about his impressive start to the season, Russell said he is planning to expand his garage to accommodate the awards he is expecting to receive in IPL 2019.”Keep getting cars and these awards. I’ll have to make a bigger garage. End of the day, well done to the guys,” Russell said.Russell shone with the bowl as well as he picked up two wickets, including the big wickets of Chris Gayle and KL Rahul.”Gayle’s like a brother to me. A legend and to get him out early in the first six is big. The plan was to restrict him as best as possible. KL Rahul too. We have our plans and we executed them,” Russell added.Shedding light on the missed opportunity, Kings XI skipper R Ashwin said he is ready to take the blame for the goof-up on the field. Ashwin had a horrible night at the Eden Gardens as he conceded 47 runs from his four-over spell and made a couple of poor captaincy calls.”I should’ve had a look at it. At that stage, with the slog on, you hope the fielders are switched on but obviously he was a debutant,” Ashwin said.Having won two successive matches to start their IPL 2019 season on a high, Kolkata Knight Riders will travel to Delhi to take on the Delhi Capitals on Saturday. Also Read | When R Ashwin Mankaded Sri Lankan batsman in 2012, Sehwag and Sachin withdrew appealAlso Read | AB de Villiers wants RCB batsmen to step up in home game vs MIAlso See:For sports news, updates, live scores and cricket fixtures, log on to indiatoday.in/sports.
