First Wynne Wednesday

Ontario public elementary school students are seeing today the biggest effect yet in the dispute between their teachers and the Ontario government.Members of the Elementary Teachers Federation of Ontario are holding the first of what they’re calling, “Wynne Wednesdays.”Besides not running any extra-curricular activities today, teachers will be dressed in a “solidarity colour” and wearing union buttons. That’s in addition to previous work-to-rule actions that include not responding to administrative e-mails or filling in for absent colleagues, not completing report cards, and not updating classroom websites.Premier Wynne says she isn’t going to take the teachers’ new tactic personally.Other teachers unions have been able to reach agreements with the government, including Catholic teachers, public secondary school teachers, and teachers at French school boards.Elementary teachers will begin rotating strikes in October if a deal is not reached.
