first_imgThe community of Glenswilly proved last night that if you want something do – do it yourself. That was the thinking after the fundraising committee of Glenswilly National School managed to raise €58,000 towards the purchase of land for playing fields and car park for the school. The money was raised in recent months by kind donations as well as hard work by many parents out selling tickets practically night and day. Last night the grand draw saw hundreds of parents and children turn up at Glenswilly GAA Club for the grand prize draw. And once again the club’s two county stars Neil Gallagher and Michael Murphy showed the true value of community spirit as they turned up to carry out the draw. The winner of the first prize of €2,000 was well known Dunfanaghy farmer Manus McHugh (yes he of the Donegal Cremeries milk carton fame) who was delighted with his prize. The second prize of €1,000 was won by Paul McAteer or Rareagh while Johnny Doherty of Glenswilly won the third prize of €500. The fourth and fifth place prizes of €250 each were won by  Katie Gallinagh of Ballybofey and Paddy McGlinchey of Letterkenny.New principal of Glenswilly National School, Master Joseph Gallinagh, paid tribute to all those who helped fundraise in recent weeks and said he had seen first-hand the true community spirit within Glenswilly. As well as the grand prize draw, pupils performed a number of songs and a short play which left the audience in great form. There was also lots of spot prizes on the night. One of the main organisers on the fundraising committee, Donal ‘Mandy’ Kelly, paid tribute to all those who pounded the pavements and country roads selling tickets in recent weeks from Glencolmcille to Main Head. “The reaction has been terrific and I am very proud of the effort put in by the people of Glenswilly.“We have two great men making the draw tonight and hopefully this land will help provide more stars to Glenswilly in the coming years,” he said.GLENSWILLY NS IN A FIELD OF THEIR OWN THANKS TO HUGELY SUCCESSFUL FUNDRAISER was last modified: May 8th, 2012 by StephenShare this:Click to share on Facebook (Opens in new window)Click to share on Twitter (Opens in new window)Click to share on LinkedIn (Opens in new window)Click to share on Reddit (Opens in new window)Click to share on Pocket (Opens in new window)Click to share on Telegram (Opens in new window)Click to share on WhatsApp (Opens in new window)Click to share on Skype (Opens in new window)Click to print (Opens in new window)Tags:fundraising drawGlenswilly National SchoolMichael MurphyNeil Gallagherlast_img
