$41 million in grants to go to CDF for costs in Southland wildfires

Officials today announced that federal and state grants of more than $41 million will go to the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection for costs incurred during the recent Southland wildfires. The Federal Emergency Management Agency will provide 75 percent of the money — $30.9 million — and the state’s Office of Emergency Services will kick in $10.3 million. Officials from the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection, known as CAL FIRE, will work with FEMA and OES officials to determine where the funds will go. The money will be used to reimburse the state for expenses that include regular employee overtime, equipment use, equipment rental, contract labor, aircraft use, materials, and similar costs incurred by other firefighting agencies that are part of the California Master Mutual Aid Agreement. There were 24 named fire incidents, including the Canyon, Buckweed and Ranch fires in Los Angeles County; the Witch and Harris fires in San Diego County, and the Santiago Fire in Orange County.
