‘This is our cup final’ – Midtjylland chief defends £71 Man United ticket price

first_imgFC Midtjylland director Cliff Crown has defended the club’s ticket prices for Thursday’s Europa League meeting with Manchester United.United supporters are fuming at being forced to fork out £71 – on top of travelling costs – to watch their team take on the Danish champions at the MCH Arena. It is a huge increase on the £22 Southampton supporters were charged when they made the trip to Midtjylland in the Europa League play-off round in August.Andy Mitten, author and editor of fanzine United We Stand, has accused the Scandinavian club of “ripping fans off” and protests are planned during the game. But Crown, who also serves as chairman of Brentford, told talkSPORT on Wednesday: “We are a very small club in a very small region in Denmark and this is our cup final so we have to make the most of our opportunity.”Midtjylland’s ground will see its capacity reduced from 11,800 to just 9,500 for the United clash because of UEFA restrictions.Crown added: “It is probably the biggest game in our history.“Everbody is really excited, the town is really up for it and we probably could have sold 40,000 tickets.”last_img
