Image: wallpaperswide.com Exploration, understanding and education were identified as important for Australians when travelling at home or abroad, new research has revealed.Guest loyalty program Hilton HHonors’ new travel preferences survey identified that 38 percent of Australians would rather enjoy cultural activities when holidaying while only 22 percent would opt to visit the beach.Exploring the Egyptian Pyramids topped the list as the most appealing travel activity with 43 percent of respondents wishing to explore the mammoth structures.Niagara Falls garnered 37 percent of the vote, while trekking the Great Wall of China amassed 30 percent and summiting the Eiffel Tower took a significant 28 percent.A meagre 5 percent of Australians selected running with the bulls at the San Fermin Festival in Pamplona, Spain as a must-do lifetime accomplishment. The survey confirmed Australians prefer English-speaking destinations, with the U.S. leading the charge at 36 percent, followed by England and New Zealand as top holiday spots.Gen Y respondents (18-29 years) seemed to agree, voting the U.S. as the most appealing, while Ireland was favoured by baby boomers.Aussies still enjoy a good holiday, 76 percent of survey respondents taking at least one annual holiday and 48 percent snagging two or more trips each year.“As a brand that is passionate about creating experiences worth sharing, it is great to see that Australians see culture as such a priority for their travels” Hilton Worldwide executive vice president Jeff Diskin said. The release of the survey results coincided with the recent launch of Hilton’s ‘Any Weekend, Anywhere’ sale; encouraging travellers to make the most of their weekends in 2013.last_img read more
